Ready to run
The
next fundraising event is up and running – the Phuket
Marathon. I am running 42km through a picture postcard setting:
the Marathon course steers the runners through a local village
market, a rubber tree plantation and buffalo-plowed rice fields;
it takes us along the beautiful beaches of Phuket and at the
home stretch, into the resort of Laguna Phuket in the North
West of the tropical island paradise. This stunning course
awaits and the training is well under way!
What
is the target?
My individual fundraising target is $2,000 for this event.
This will not cover any expenses for event participation or
travel/accommodation in Phuket. 100% of donations will go
towards the Hands Taskforce Yasothon initiative (read below).
How will this be spent?
In March 2010 Hands decided to expand their support to a new
orphanage in the Yasothon Province, 530 km North East of Bangkok.
This is home to 115 children who are either
HIV positive or have a parent who is HIV positive. In an immediate
response to their needs, Hands has formed Task Force Yasothon,
to overhaul the orphanage, build new accommodation, develop
a vegetable garden and brighten the environment for these
children who have dealt with so much grief in their short
lives and deserve a break, and a helping hand.

A BIG THANK YOU!
With
the efforts of many, over $12,000
has now been raised. This is a fantastic contribution
to support the children at Baan Tharn Namchai, both directly
- contributing to the orphanage running costs - and through
well-managed, local projects funded by Hands to develop sustainable
business, which generates money to meet on-going orphanage
expenses.
TRIVIA
NIGHT
We would like to thank everyone involved in the Trivia Night,
especially individuals and organisations who made donations
for our silent auction: Ro-Ma Presentations, Longrain Melbourne,
Clive Dickson, and Bob and Carolyn Graham. In all, $3,500
was raised. Also, special thanks to Marisol Horne, who ran
the event with considerable flare. The word's out that you've
found your calling!

We
would like to thank the Moreland City Council for generously
discounting the cost of hall hire for this event. Every
dollar saved, is an additional dollar for the kids!
